The BIG Biodiversity Challenge is now open for submissions
 

The BIG Biodiversity Challenge invites you to join the movement to protect and enhance biodiversity in the built environment.

How to enter the BIG Biodiversity Challenge and Awards 2024

​

1. Choose the relevant award category(s) for your biodiversity enhancements.

 

2. Nominate a Biodiversity Champion (two categories to choose from). 

​

3. Download and complete the Project Entry Form and the Champion Entry Form.

​

4. Return the entry forms to bigawards@ciria.org by Friday 24 May 2024 at 17:00. The shortlist will be announced in July 2024 following the judging process; we will inform the primary contact for each successful entry.

​

5. The shortlist will be invited to provide a short video to be shared at the awards ceremony and more widely www.bigchallenge.info. The shortlist will not be judged on the video.

​

6. The winners will be announced at the in-person awards ceremony on Wednesday 25 September 2024 (provisional date).

Awards categories and entry guidelines:

 

  • The awards are free to enter. 

  • There are eleven awards categories to choose from: nine biodiversity projects and two biodiversity champions. Please refer to the judging criteria and hints and tips.

  • You may enter the same project/scheme in two categories maximum, but you must complete a different submission TAILORED TO THE AWARD CATEGORY for each one. 

  • The Overall Winner Award will be presented to the enhancement that demonstrates an outstanding commitment to biodiversity. 

  • For all project related submissions, biodiversity interventions will have been completed in the last 24 months up to and including 24 May 2024. This may be the culmination of several years’ work or a small scale action carried out during a construction project.  

  • For maintenance and management projects, the programme should have been in place for at least 12 months up to and including 24 May 2024. 

  • In submitting your entry, you understand that we will publish all submissions (including images) on www.bigchallenge.info and content may be shared elsewhere by CIRIA.

 

Key dates:

  • 24 May 2024 - Submission deadline for the BIG Biodiversity Challenge 2024.

  • July 2024 - Shortlist announced following Judging Day. 

  • 25 September 2024 - BIG Biodiversity Challenge Awards Ceremony.
